With a solid foundation in land use planning, I have contributed my expertise to various international organizations, including FAO and CIHEAM Bari, through a series of impactful consultancy assignments.
Between 2022 and 2023 (jobs 38 and 39), my colleague Freddy Nachtergaele and I collaborated on drafting a manuscript for new Guidelines for Integrated Land Use Planning, intended to update FAO’s 1993 Guidelines for Land Use Planning. Portions of the manuscript, in edited form, were recently published as a report to FAO’s Committee on Agriculture. Additionally, we developed content materials for an FAO e-learning course on land use planning.
From 2016 to 2019 (Jobs 30 and 34), I enhanced the FAO Land Resources Planning Toolbox by preparing inventories of tools, analyzing survey results, and enriching the toolbox with new guidelines and approaches. My work included developing user guides, integrating case studies, and contributing to key FAO publications (Pubs. 114 and 118). These efforts required close collaboration with technical officers in FAO and other stakeholders, ensuring the tools were practical and aligned with the needs of land use planners worldwide.
Earlier, in 2016, I contributed to urban agriculture initiatives in Swaziland, evaluating the Malkerns Agriculture Town Planning Scheme (Job 28). I supported national consultants, ensured the finalization of urban agriculture policies and legal frameworks reports, and facilitated a validation workshop,.
My work in land use planning dates back to the mid-1990s (job 13, Pubs. 25 and 26), where I coordinated in Tanzania an international multidisciplinary team, producing strategies for land use planning, land tenure, and natural resource management in the country. This role involved preparing studies, organizing workshops, and editing scientific proceedings.
These diverse experiences highlight my capacity to integrate technical knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to advance land use planning at different levels.
