Maps – Namibia

Territorial scope: country
Themes: 2, 3
Dataset Description
These two maps provide an example of a synthesis of the physical environment for agricultural uses through an agroecological zones approach.
The agroecological zones map identifies broad land entities – agroecological zones -that are internally consistent in terms of climate, terrain, soil, and land use patterns, making each zone distinguishable from others.
Given the importance of climate for land use in this dry country, the growing period zones map shows patterns of moisture availability for plants, based on a probability analysis of a time series of growing periods.

The map set is included in Publication 28 (2016). For methodological details and further information, including interpretations of the various maps, is referred to the publication.
